📩 Cascade AAU Basketball – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs

🏀 General Program FAQs

Q: Who can play for Cascade AAU?
A: Players cannot be enrolled in a school with an existing AAU program. However, homeschooled athletes or those from eligible schools are welcome to join!


Q: What leagues do Cascade AAU teams participate in?
A:
📌 5th Grade: Competes in the Manny League
📌 6th–8th Grade: Competes in the Southern Oregon Youth Club League (SOYCL)


Q: How often do teams practice?
A: Each team practices 2-3 times per week, with games on weekends.


Q: When does the season start and end?
A:
✅ Tryouts: Late October/Early November
✅ Practices Begin: Early to Mid-November
✅ First Tournament: Mid to Late December
✅ Regular Season: January – March


Q: What is the commitment expectation?
A: At Cascade AAU, we believe that Attitude, Attendance, and Ability are the three pillars of a successful player. Without all three, growth and impact on the team aren't sustainable. We expect each player to commit to the team for the duration of the season. If you have to miss a practice or a game, please communicate with your coach. 


*We discourage families from trying to balance two sports in one season. That said, we are willing to work with your family to provide the most positive experience for your child. 

💰 Registration & Fees

Q: How much does it cost to play?
A: The cost varies by grade level but typically ranges between $200-$300 per player, covering league fees, tournament entry, and gear (shooting shirts & sweatshirts).


Q: What does the fee cover?
A: The registration fee covers:
✔ League fees & tournament entry
✔ Practice facility costs
✔ Team gear (shooting shirts & sweatshirts)
✔ Coaching & development resources

🔥 Special Events & Travel

Q: What is the Portland Trip?
A: The 7th & 8th grade teams will take a trip to Portland, where they will:
✅ Compete in two games against top-tier competition
✅ Watch Gonzaga vs. University of Portland
✅ Participate in a high-level workout with D1 coaches

Last year, this was one of the biggest highlights for players and parents alike!


Q: Are there any out-of-town tournaments?
A: Yes, teams will participate in multiple tournaments, including:
📅 December – Medford (All Grades)
📅 January – Out of town (7th/8th) | Medford (5th/6th)
📅 February – Out of town (7th/8th) | Medford (5th/6th)
📅 March – Middle School State Championships (if qualified

🏀 Summer Basketball Camp FAQs

Q: When is the summer basketball camp?
A: August 18-21, from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM each day with youth from 9:00am to 10:30am and middle school from 11:00am - 1:00pm.


Q: Who will be coaching the camp?
A: Guest Coaches Brant Minor & Jon Willis, both former college coaches and current coaches of GRIT Oregon in Portland.


Q: What is the cost of the camp?
A:
💲 $105 for youth campers (3rd - 5th grade)
💲 $130 for middle school (6th - 8th grade)


Q: What will the camp focus on?
A:
✔ Skill Development – Shooting, ball-handling, passing, defense & more
✔ Competitive Play – High-intensity drills and structured game scenarios
✔ FUN! – A positive learning environment focused on growth and enjoyment
✔ 3-on-3 Tournament – Campers will compete and test their skills in real game situations

Q: How can I help as a parent?
A: We’re looking for Team Moms to help this season with:
✅ Coordinating volunteers for game-day duties
✅ Planning team events and bonding activities
✅ Assisting with travel logistics
